Ejaculatory Duct Obstruction

Obstruction of the ejaculatory ducts can be caused by a variety of reasons. These include small stones or cysts, infection, scarring, improperly formed ducts or other anatomic or genetic abnormalities. Also, certain medications can cause ejaculatory duct abnormalities with similar clinical findings.

Diagnosis

In order to diagnosis ejaculatory duct obstruction, we may perform one of a number tests which will assist in the diagnosis. These tests may include an ultrasound, blood work, a semen analysis and genetic testing.

Treatment

Treatment of an ejaculatory duct obstruction first requires that any medications be discontinued that may be the cause of the abnormal semen analysis. If there are no offending medications, opening of the ejaculatory duct may be performed.
