DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone)
For many women, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) during menopause means the difference between unbearable symptoms and ones that are well managed or non-existent. But some women are unable or unwilling to delve into hormone replacement territory.
For these women that may be looking for another option, DHEA is an alternative worth looking into. DHEA is an adrenal hormone that can ease the severity of menopause symptoms, including some of the most common: loss of bone density, depression, weight gain and decreased sexual desire. In women, DHEA serves as a precursor or the beginning hormone from which other hormones are formed, like estrogen and testosterone, are created by the body.
