Cancer screening is an important part of preventive health. Depending on the type of cancer, appropriate screening may help identify cancer—or precancerous changes—before symptoms develop.

At RWell Center, our role is to help patients take a more proactive and organized approach to cancer screening by considering age, medical history, family history, individual risk factors, previous screening and available testing options.

Our Role in Cancer Screening & Early Detection

RWell Center is not an oncology center, and we do not replace an oncologist or other cancer specialist.

Our role is focused on risk assessment, screening, advanced testing, interpretation and guidance.

If a screening test identifies a concerning finding, we can help guide the patient toward the appropriate specialist and diagnostic evaluation.

Advanced Multi-Cancer Early Detection Testing

One of the most rapidly developing areas of cancer screening is multi-cancer early detection testing.

These blood-based tests are designed to look for molecular signals that may be associated with cancer. Different testing platforms use different technologies and may evaluate patterns involving cell-free DNA and other molecular information circulating in the blood.

Some are designed to evaluate potential signals associated with many different cancer types from a single blood sample and may provide information that can help guide where additional evaluation should be focused when a concerning signal is identified.

At RWell Center, advanced multi-cancer testing may be considered as an additional component of an individualized cancer-screening strategy.

These tests are screening tools—not diagnostic tests.

Established Cancer Screening Still Matters

Advanced testing should complement—not replace—established cancer screening.

Depending on a patient’s age, sex, medical history and individual risk, appropriate screening may include:

Family history, smoking history, previous abnormal findings and other individual risk factors may affect when screening should begin and how frequently it should be performed.

At RWell Center, part of our role is helping patients understand whether they are up to date with appropriate conventional cancer screening before considering additional testing.

Understanding the Limitations & Potential Risks of Advanced Cancer Testing

Advanced cancer screening technology is promising, but it also has important limitations and potential downsides.

A positive or concerning result does not mean that a patient has cancer. Additional diagnostic evaluation is required to determine whether cancer is actually present.

Similarly, a negative result does not guarantee that cancer is absent. No blood-based multi-cancer screening test can identify every cancer or every early-stage cancer.

Advanced screening may also produce false-positive or false-negative results. A concerning result can sometimes lead to additional blood tests, imaging, specialist consultations, procedures or biopsies that ultimately do not identify cancer.

This additional evaluation may result in:

Anxiety  •  Emotional Distress  •  Uncertainty  •  Additional Medical Expenses  •  Additional Testing  •  Potentially Unnecessary Procedures

For this reason, the decision to pursue advanced multi-cancer screening should consider the patient’s age, medical and family history, individual cancer risk, previous screening and personal preferences, as well as the potential benefits and limitations of testing.

Most importantly, advanced blood-based testing should not replace established cancer screening when those screening methods are recommended.

A Screening Result Is Not a Cancer Diagnosis

This distinction is essential.

Cancer screening identifies findings that may warrant further investigation. Diagnosis requires appropriate medical evaluation.

If a screening test identifies a concerning finding, the next step may include:

Additional Laboratory Testing  •  Diagnostic Imaging  •  Endoscopy  •  Genetic Evaluation  •  Biopsy  •  Specialist Evaluation

When cancer is suspected or identified, patients should undergo appropriate evaluation and management by an oncologist or other appropriate cancer specialist.

At RWell Center, the test is the beginning of the process—not the end of it.

Important Cancer Screening Disclaimer

RWell Center is not an oncology center and does not diagnose or treat cancer. Cancer screening and multi-cancer early detection tests are screening tools and cannot confirm or exclude the presence of cancer.

Patients should understand that screening may produce abnormal, indeterminate, false-positive or false-negative results. An abnormal or concerning result may lead to additional laboratory testing, imaging, specialist consultations, procedures or biopsy, and these evaluations may ultimately determine that cancer is not present.

By choosing advanced cancer screening, patients should understand that testing may result in anxiety, emotional distress, uncertainty, additional medical expenses and potentially unnecessary follow-up testing or procedures.

RWell Center’s role is to provide access to appropriate screening, assist with interpretation of results, recommend appropriate next steps and facilitate referral when indicated. RWell Center cannot guarantee the accuracy of third-party laboratory testing, that cancer will be detected, or that additional testing will or will not be necessary.

Patients are responsible for completing recommended follow-up testing, consultations and specialist evaluations and for the costs associated with such care.

Advanced cancer screening does not replace established cancer screening or appropriate medical evaluation of concerning signs or symptoms.
